Jim Crandall, Palms to Pines Golf Association handicap chair, provided this report about the Friday, May 17, golf tournament at the Palm Desert Resort Country Club.

Palms to Pines golfer Gary Brown continues his hot streak. During last month’s tourney at Diamond Valley Golf Course, Brown shot the club’s first hole-in-one on the par 3 17th hole.

At this month’s tourney, Brown (course handicap 14) shot a net 67 to win the tourney by three strokes. He also won three of the four closest-to-the-pin contests. The fourth par 3 remained unscathed.

Pete Capparelli (24) and Bill Sanborn (26) tied for second with net 70s, John LoGiudice (22) was alone in fourth with a net 74, and Jim Crandall (12) took fifth with a net 76.

Points are awarded at each tournament. The top eight point finishers of the year go into match-play playoffs for the club championship in August, September and October. A member has to compete in at least five regular season tournaments and have a handicap no greater than 24.4 in order to qualify for the playoffs. The club is a member of the Southern California Golf Association and is sanctioned to establish SCGA handicaps for members.
