Steele’s one-under-par 70-71 — 141 in The Barclay’s last week was not good enough to make the cut in the first tournament of the FedEx Cup playoffs, so he earned no new FedEx cup points. However, he had enough FedEx Cup points built up from regular season play to advance to the second tournament of the playoffs anyway.

This week, the Idyllwild native plays in the $8 million Deutsche Bank Championship at the TPC Boston course in Norton, Mass.
