Brendan Steele told the Town Crier last week that he had had mental troubles with his game since the Tournament of Champions in Maui, but that he felt that turning around at the Humana Challenge in La Quinta. While he missed the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open in La Jolla last week, he continued to feel optimistic about his game.

As he stated following the Humana, Steele said that he felt good about his game after playing at Torrey Pines, but he just didn’t get good scoring, out of his play. He shot an even par 71-73 —144 during his two days of play.

Steele hit 71 percent of the fairways with drives averaging 291 yards and he hit 69 percent of the greens in regulation, but he was leaving himself many long putts for the needed birdie. He averaged nearly two putts per green on Thursday and Friday.

This week, Steele travels to Arizona for the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Last year he scored a hole in one at number 12 in that tournament on the way to posing a six under par score for the four days of play.

Next week, he will play in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro Am and the following week will take him to Pacific Palisades for the Northern Trust Open on the Riviera Country Club course.
