Editor: I am responding to the letter written by Dave Hunt entitled “Leave us the way you found us,” wherein he suggested that my efforts to offer an alternative to leaving the Hill to shop for reasonable prices is changing Idyllwild in a bad way. My whole motivation is to provide a local shopping experience,…
70 years ago – 1949 Dr. Harry Pearlman, Louis Pearlman, Louis Artin and Sam Melca started up Devil’s Slide Trail hoping to hike down the desert side. But after nine hours of floundering in snow up to their armpits, they reappeared in Fern Valley. 65 years ago – 1954 A San Bernardino radio show host…
Last week in “Days of Our Nine Lives,” the ARF cats talked about how many of them are lap cats. Zeus: I was hoping last week’s “Creature Corner” would encourage humans to see what great lap cats we are. Thomas: Well, Heavenly Whiskers has some interest. Zeus: Seriously? That’s great! Whiskers, tell us about it….
70 years ago – 1949 A crew of 70 RKO people descended on the Idyllwild Inn. They were to shoot location scenes for a Tim Holt western. Along with the troupe came Holt’s favorite palomino, Lightning. 65 years ago – 1954 The biggest angling crowd on record came to the mountain for the opening of…
Before Jack and I came out of retirement — for me to run the Town Crier again — the Idyllwild Historic Preservation District became a fact with the intention of preserving the historic character of the charming downtown buildings. It is what has always differentiated us from Big Bear and Wrightwood. This is what keeps visitors coming back…
Editor: I want to die on the Hill. I’ve said it. I’m 81. My friends have said it. We are Idy elders. Many of us live alone. We believe that the best homes are our own homes. Question: What will it take to enable us to “age in place” with our friends in this very…
Last week in “Days of Our Nine Lives,” the ARF cats welcomed Minnie, the newest ARF dog. Zeus: Unbelievable. Just unbelievable! Thomas: What’s that, Zeus? Zeus: Minnie has already been adopted! But the good news is she is still on the Hill, happy in Pine Cove. Indigo: Lucky girl! So, who is next up? Will…
Idyllwild Arts Academy Orchestra Concert Saturday, April 27, 2019, 7:30 p.m. Lowman Concert Hall, IAA Campus The occasion of the final orchestral program of Idyllwild Arts Academy’s year was a pleasant enough evening, with only light breezes interrupting an otherwise warm, ambient environment, and further banishment of the latest off-Hill human frailties (nefarious and otherwise)…
Last week in “Days of Our Nine Lives,” the ARF cats celebrated Alfie’s adoption. George: Dog in the house! Dog in the house! Thomas: Here we go again with the revolving dog door. George: Patience, Thomas, patience. ARF cats will eventually find their forever homes. Minnie: (bouncing into the cattery) Hellooooooooooo! I’m Minnie, and I’m…
