65 years ago – 1948 The PTA raised $150 at its first Hill social event. 60 years ago – 1953 The thunderstorm that drenched Idyllwild proceeded northward, leaving 300 lightning strikes in the Six Rivers National Forest. 55 years ago – 1958 Charlotte Gorzny, an eager youthful reader, read 47 books to top all other…
Sometimes it’s not even in your plan. Call it fate or the way the wind blew, but at the end of the day, you welcome a new four-legged member into your family. And that’s just what happened with Oreo, our Chihuahua-mix. Now known as Ortega, this little chili pepper won the heart and soul of…
Sometimes operating a local newspaper feels like a game of Whac-A-Mole — no matter what hole you peek out of someone’s waiting there with a mallet. Take the current subject of IFPD, for example. Some folk strongly oppose IFPD’s continued existence, wanting to replace it with Cal Fire. They may not get why the TC…
I have had an opportunity to read the political ads supporting Cal Fire, the letters regarding the Idyllwild Fire Protection District problems and while I am somewhat out of place here, I felt it important to maybe help with a little different perspective. 65 years ago – 1948 At long last, a suitable place was found for a mountain branch of the county library — a small building on the Fern Valley Lodge property. Volunteer librarians were being sought. 60 years ago – 1953 Sierra Club members of the rock climbing division again tackled Tahquitz Rock. Several new…
What a busy weekend. Reunited are the very well behaved shepherd mix, and Grizzly, the pom-poo. We are so happy that you are both safe and home. Adopted is our very special and so loved little Bruce, the Chihuahua that was dumped at the Transfer Station with Dozer and Ladybug. Paws up to you, little…
