  • Opinion: Small communities

Only in Idyllwild. Take a look at other smaller communities throughout the State (about 5,000). Almost all of them have one fire chief for life, not three in two years. The local officials love their jobs and the people appreciate their work and support them. They rarely resign for “personal and family reasons,” as often…

Look what the wind blew in! Weighing about five pounds, you’ll never even know she’s on your lap. Introducing Miss Feather who was found wandering on Highway 243. Quite the agile girl, she is young, energetic, loving and full of tricks. We believe she is a powder puff Chinese crested mix. We know she is just a sweetheart. Boo is looking for you! This 1-1⁄2-year-old Chiweenie is pure love on the end of your leash. Another good lap dog, Boo will need a secure yard to play in. Friendly with dogs, cats and kids. He will be a great lifetime friend.

60 years ago – 1952 Townsfolk were invited to a premiere showing of “Ballad of Idyllwild,” a movie made on the campus of ISOMATA (now the Idyllwild Arts Academy). Marais and Miranda were the authors, and Meredith Willson contributed to the theme song. 55 years ago – 1957 The search was abandoned for a nude…

  • Initial Thoughts: Two subjects — public salaries and letters to the editor …

Special Districts compensation payments Following the August 2010 revelations about exorbitant public salaries in the City of Bell, Calif., State Controller John Chiang requested that California’s counties, cities and special districts report their salary and earnings data to his office. Last year, he began posting these data online for the public’s use. As of Monday,…

Mancha decided to take a little stroll, but was quickly reunited with her very worried owner. As was Harab, the friendly white Pitbull. Paws up to you both. Bentley, aka Bronson, the chocolate American Staffordshire is now in a trial home. A big bow wow for Lulu, who has finally found her forever home. It’s the week of love, and our hearts go out to the family of Greta, who passed over the rainbow bridge, the broken hearts will take a long time to heal with the loss of our special Sophie. We will always remember her smile and the way she sat so pretty.

All that was found of him were his clothes and shoes, which he removed before his disappearance. 50 years ago – 1962 Three women joined the Pine Cove fire department’s rescue squad…

  • Opinion: Senior housing

Isn’t it time we had some senior housing right here in Idyllwild? Over the last 10 years alone, we’ve seen friends who are longtime, happy residents forced to move off the Hill, often because they simply can’t continue to live alone in their homes. Often their hearts are broken, leaving the town they love; they’re…

  • Opinion: Listen to the voters

You added “Capparelli’s reappointment to the commission was done during a public meeting” to my last letter. It was a public meeting, but the public’s voice was not heard. [Former] President Pete Capparelli and Vice President Paul Riggi had just been voted out of office, rejected by the people in our general election. They lost…

  • Opinion: The emperor’s new clothes

IFPD does not deserve a rate increase and Riverside County Fire should take over IFPD. In fact CAL FIRE should be granted the $150 per parcel abatement fee. In addition CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire and Riverside County Code Enforcement should be given this task. IFPD has gravely neglected its abatement responsibilities. Just look at the…
