Final games of regular season
On Monday, the softball week kicked off with Café Aroma taking on the Idyllwild Tea Company Cubs. Vicki McDonald pitched great for the T-Cubs. Bob and Kathy Lewis each had a couple nice hits and scored a couple runs as Café Aroma won 11-8.

The same night, Café Aroma played a second game. This time they faced Creekstone Inn. Jessica Priefer had a couple of great hits to helping Creekstone Inn to an early lead. Lance and Julie Fogle both played well, scoring a couple runs, but Creekstone Inn played great defense and went on to win 10-2.

On Tuesday, two more games were played. The first game between Ajax and Creekstone Inn was a key game in the standings. Ajax’s Janie Espinoza played well, scoring a couple late inning runs; but they weren’t enough to overcome Creekstone’s Jason Sonnier’s two home runs. — including a grand slam and a three-run home run. Creekstone Inn’s 18-8 triumph clinched first place for the playoffs.

Pacific Slope and Forest Lumber played Tuesday’s second game. Both playoff teams came out swinging hot bats. Mark and Kristin Collis played great for Pac Slope, each scoring a couple runs. Jeff Adams led the charge for Forest Lumber, scoring three runs as they played good defense at the end and came away with a big 16-12 win.

Forest Lumber’s victory created a three-way tie for second place. Ajax and Pacific Slope joined Forest Lumber with season ending 6-4 records. The tie-breaker determined Forest Lumber was fourth and would face Creekstone Inn in the first round of the playoffs, which began Thursday. Pacific Slope earned the second seed and took on the third seeded Ajax Friday.

Play-offs
The playoffs began Thursday when Forest Lumber and Creekstone Inn met in the first game of three-game series. Forest Lumber came out hot in the first inning as Buddy Beagle hit a three-run home run. Creekstone Inn bounced back with a seven-run second inning. The big hit was Josh White’s grand slam home run. Creekstone Inn led 8-3 after the second inning and went on to win 13-6 and take a one-game-to-none lead in the three-game series.

The second playoff series kicked off Friday between Pacific Slope and Ajax. In almost a replay of the game the night before, the visiting team jumped out to an early lead when Raymond Marcus got a big hit as Ajax took a four-run, first-inning lead. Pacific Slope came right back with three runs in the first and then five more runs in the third inning. Danielle Whitney and Tanya Wampler had a couple big hits and Pac Slope went on to win 19-6 and take a one-game lead in their best of three series.

The playoff series continue this week with possible third games on Wednesday and Thursday. The championship series will begin Friday, Aug. 26. The second championship game will be played Monday, Aug. 29, and if a third game is necessary, the series will end Tuesday, Aug. 30.
