Brendan Steele came up shy of playing the weekend at the Scottish Open in Gullane, Scotland on Friday.

The Idyllwild native posted a 1-under par 69-70 — 139 to miss the cut by one stroke.

The Scottish was his last chance to qualify for The (British) Open Championship to be played next week on the Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland, after missing the same opportunity last week by a hair at the Open de France.

We expect we’ll next see Brendan play in the $5.8 million RBC Canadian Open, July 23-26, on the Glen Abbey course at Oakville, Ontario, Canada. But the official field will not be announced until late afternoon on the 17th.

The native Idyllwilder struggled with driving — he did not find one fairway on this tough, tree-lined course. Consequently, he hit no greens in regulation, either. Remarkably, he…
