Brendan Steele stayed in Ohio after last week's Memorial Tournament to play a qualifying round on Monday for this year's $10 million U.S. Open. The Idyllwild native easily qualified by firing an 8-under-par 66-68 — 134 on the Wedgewood Golf & Country Club course in Powell, Ohio.
The U.S. Open, one of the four "majors" on the PGA Tour, will be played next week, June 16-19, on the Oakmont Country Club course in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. Oakmont last hosted the U.S. Open in 2007, before Brendan was playing on the PGA Tour.
Some notable golfers who failed to qualify with Brendan on Monday included Stuart Appleby, Aaron Baddeley, Billy Mayfair, Daniel Summerhays and Camilo Villegas.
