Brendan Steele fired an even-par 70 in his third round Saturday to finish the day 2-over-par for the tournament in the U.S. Open at Oakmont, Pennsylvania. However, the leader, at 5 under par, and some 27 others are still out on the course in their third rounds.

The Idyllwild native is currently in 12th place, seven strokes off the lead. After rocky holes in the middle of his round, Brendan finished strong, with a string of birdies at holes no. 15, 16 and 17.

Brendan's tee time on Sunday will not be announced until all players finish their third rounds on Sunday morning. However, it is safe to say that he will be teeing off on Sunday in the U.S. Open from the 1st tee, not the 10th, which is a fine accomplishment in and of itself.

This is only Brendan's second appearance in the U.S. Open, but it is his best U.S. Open performance by far. In 2013 he qualified, but was cut. This year he is playing at the level of a top-20 or top-15 finish, or perhaps even higher.
