The tournament kicked off Friday evening in Riverside with the Wildcats facing off against the St. John Bosco High School Junior Varsity team. Idyllwild’s own Adam Smith of the Wildcats scored the tournament’s first goal about midway through the first period. But Bosco eventually lit up the scoreboard, making the final score 9-2.

Saturday, the Wildcats played the Capistrano Coyotes JVs, who shut out the Wildcats 7-0.

Sunday, the Wildcats played two games, facing off first with the Lady Wildcats. The Wildcats’ Max Nordhausen scored 4 goals to beat the Lady Wildcats 4-1.

In the final game Sunday night, the Wildcats faced off against the Corona-Norco Jr. Stingrays. In a see-saw contest, the Stingrays defeated the Wildcats 3-1.

Although the Wildcats played extremely well, the much-larger 18-and-under high school teams turned out to be too much for the 14-and-under Wildcats to handle.

The Wildcats next play a pre-season exhibition game on Sunday, Sept. 11, against the Lady Ducks. The game will be played at The Rinks, 5555 W. McFadden Ave., Huntington Beach.

Adam still needs help paying for this season. Remember, Wildcats Hockey is a nonprofit organization, and all donations and sponsorships are tax-deductible.

Editor’s note: Brian Smith is Adam’s father. The Town Crier has further information for anyone interested in helping Adam.
