Brendan Steele posted a 12-under-par 67-71-70-68 — 276 in last week’s CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to tie for 13th place in the second tournament of the new PGA Tour season.
The usual, detailed ShotLink data were not available from Malaysia, but the native Idyllwilder posted 20 birdies and an eagle against eight bogeys and a double. (A bit of a heartbreak: A bogey on the 72nd hole kept him from scoring a top-10 performance.) Brendan hit nearly 82 percent of the greens in regulation from drives that found the fairway nearly 68 percent of the time. He needed only 1.746 putts per green.
On the strength of his opening win at Napa and this 13th-place showing in Malaysia, Brendan still tops the FedExCup points list with 556 points, and his Official World Golf Ranking remains at 47th.
Brendan will skip this week’s tournament in South Korea.
