Brendan Steele posted a 3-under-par 70-74-69-72 — 285 in the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio last week.

The Idyllwild native’s drives averaged 318.8 yards while finding more than 57 percent of the fairways and hitting nearly 71 percent of the greens in regulation — he tied for third in the field in that latter category. But his putter didn’t help him; it cost him 4.854 strokes against the field.

He moves up to 12th on the FedExCup points list. He remains ranked 46th on the Official World Golf Ranking.

Brendan teems with Jamie Lovemark this week in the $7.2 million Zurich Classic of New Orleans, played on the TPC Louisiana course in Avondale. It is a stroke-play tournament with foursomes (alternating shots) on Thursday and Saturday, and four-ball (best ball) on Friday and Sunday.
