Brendan Steele made the cut handily at the U.S. Open last week, but had a rough go on days three and four. For the tournament, he posted a 20-over-par 72-73-75-80 — 300. Unexpectedly strong winds on Saturday dried out the greens and made putting treacherous for the players, especially those playing later in the day.

The native Idyllwilder dropped from 22nd to 23rd on the FedExCup points list, and from 48th to 52nd on the Official World Golf Ranking. However, three weeks ago at the crucial Week 21, Brendan was inside the top 50, so he has already earned an exemption to play in The Open Championship (formerly known in the U.S. as the British Open) at Carnoustie Golf Club in Angus, Scotland, July 19 to 22.

Brendan will play this week in the $7 million Travelers Championship on the TPC River Highlands course in Cromwell, Connecticut. He tees off No. 1 at 9:30 a.m. PDT Thursday and off No. 10 at 4:30 a.m. PDT Friday. He will play with Brian Harman and Luke List both days.
