Jim Crandall, Palms to Pines Golf Association handicap chair, provided this report about the association’s regular monthly tourney on Friday, Dec. 21 at the Hemet Golf Club.
Competition was keen and one shot separated the winner, Norm Kyriss (course handicap 8) from the next four golfers. Kyriss shot a net 68, but four others shot net 69, which created a tie for second through fifth place. The runner-ups were Dennis Chavez (9), Paul Cozens (11), Scott Schroeder (19) and Barry Wallace (14).
In the B flight, no ties occurred. This group is golfers with a handicap index of 24.4 or above as of Aug. 15, 2018.
Jerry Daquila (26) shot a net 69 for first place. Second place was earned by Chris Kramer (35) with a net 79. Barry Zander (34) shot a net 81 for third. Don DePalma (35) was fourth with a net 84 and David Hiemenz (32) rounded out the top five with a net 86.
The winners of the closest-to-the-pin contests on the four par 3s were Schroeder on hole no. 4, Wallace on hole no. 7, Kyriss on hole no. 14 and Bob Wadlow on hole 17.

In regular season, points are awarded at each tournament as follows: first place, 6 points; second place, 4 points; third place, 3 points; fourth place, 2 points; fifth place, 1 point. Also, one-half point is awarded to everyone who participates.
A member has to compete in at least five regular-season tournaments to qualify for the playoffs.
The club is a member of the Southern California Golf Association and is sanctioned to establish SCGA handicaps for members.
