Native Idyllwilder Brendan Steele had more trouble last week at the Charles Schwab Challenge on the Colonial Country Club course in Fort Worth. He posted a 12-over par 75-77 — 152 to miss the 36-hole cut by 10.
For the two days, he pounded drives averaging 317 yards, but they found fairways only 50 percent of the time and led to hitting only 44 percent of the greens in regulation. And, against the field, he dropped about 2.4 strokes putting each day.
B is hoping to iron things out in Jack Nicklaus’ tournament this week, the $9.1 million Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide, which will be played on the Muirfield Village Golf Club course in Dublin, Ohio. He’ll be teeing off Thursday at 9:43 a.m. PDT and Friday at 4:53 a.m. PDT, playing with Keith Mitchell and Cameron Champ both days.
