Brendan Steele carded a 2-under-par 72-72-71-71 — 286 at The Players Championship on the PGA Tour last week to finish in a tie for 41st place.
The Idyllwild native put together 15 birdies against 11 bogeys and a double while finding 55% of the fairways with drives averaging 286 yards. He hit 62.5% of the greens in regulation and averaged gaining more than one stroke daily against the field putting.
A memorable highlight came Sunday on the notorious 17th island green when Brendan started an enormously wide-bending putt toward the hole to see it drop in for birdie 57 feet later — reminiscent of Tiger Woods’ famous “Better than most!” 60-foot bender on the same green 20 years earlier.
Brendan currently stands in 84th place on the FedExCup points list and is ranked 78th in the world on the Official World Golf Rankings.
He will play this week in the $7-million The Honda Classic on the PGA National (Champion) course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
He’ll tee off Thursday at 5:31 a.m. PDT and Friday at 10:26 a.m. PDT, playing both days with Ted Potter, Jr. and Jimmy Walker.
Watch him on the Golf Channel and NBC, or follow him shot-for-shot in 3D with computer or cellphone using TOURCast at pgatour.com.
