As youth soccer kicked off the last week of regular-season games, our first match between the undefeated Red Hawks and the Kraken proved to be a nail biter, with outstanding defense by Mateo Whitmer of the Kraken keeping it a scoreless game going into halftime.
The Red Hawks started the second half off strong, with 3 goals by Miles Sechrest, but the Kraken picked up momentum and with great teamwork, Makai Githaiga and Caleb Bischoff scored together to finish the game off at a score of 3-1.
We wrapped up the night with another intense match between the Green Wolves and the Blue Sharks. Jason Maldonado of the Green Wolves struck early with 2 big goals, but Kayson Adams, Ashley Giampa and the rest of the Blue Sharks were not going to go down easily. After a hard-fought game and incredible goaltending by Jaxx Foye, the Green Wolves were able to secure their win over the Blue Sharks. Playoffs for the 7- to 9-year-olds will take place on Monday, Oct. 25, with the Red Hawks facing the Green Wolves and the Kraken against the Blue Sharks.
We finished off the week with a close game between the Idyllwild Stars and the Storm, with Jackson Taylor of the Stars scoring quickly. Chloe Kenyon of the Storm came back and got multiple shots on goal, but wasn’t able to connect with the net, leaving the Idyllwild stars victorious with a close 1-0 win.
Playoffs for the 10- to 14-year-olds will take place at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26. The final playoff game for the 4- to 6-year-olds will take place from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28.
