Brendan Steele did so well at the Sony the past two years (2021 T4; 2020 outright 2nd) we were all hoping for a fine result this year, too, but it was not to be. He posted an even par 69-71 — 140 to miss the cut by five strokes.

The Idyllwild native slammed drives averaging 319 yards into nearly 68% of the fairways, and he hit 69% of the greens in regulation. He even gained 1.428 strokes per day against the field with his putter, but it wasn’t enough to play on the weekend in Hawaii this year.

Brendan currently stands 25th on the FedExCup points list, and he ranks 110th in the Official World Golf Ranking.

B will tee it up locally this week, playing in the $7.6 million The American Express held on several courses down in La Quinta.

Thurs., 10 a.m. Nicklaus Tournament Course, Hole #10

Fri., 9:40 a.m. Pet Dye Stadium Course, Hole #1

Sat., 9:10 a.m. La Quinta CC Course, Hole #10
