Brendan Steele fired a 7-under-par 33-32 — 65 in The Players Championship on the TPC Sawgrass course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, in Thursday’s first round, and tied for second place, one stroke behind the leader. But course conditions changed and his game changed with them.

All the Idyllwild native could muster for the week was a 3-over-par 65-76-74-76 — 291 for 57th place. He now has 541 FedExCup points on the season, but his ranking dropped from 53rd to 57th.

Brendan has this week off.
