Editor: Just received the July 27 issue that includes your column “Out Loud.” I am a voracious reader of print media, including the peerless Town Crier. There are no equals that I’ve seen in my travels or libraries. While financial difficulties for the printed media are well known, it is shocking when it comes close…
Editor: After a summer of travels, we sat down to get caught up on the news from home, by reading the Town Crier, of course. So much happens on our delightful Hill that we love to keep up with: student successes at Idyllwild School and the Idyllwild Arts Academy, community meetings, sports events, art shows,…
Editor: This cute town could be even nicer if everyone who walked around town picked up one piece of trash. What happened to the sign that said “America’s Cleanest Forest?” Could we please tidy up this town? Mim Andrews Idyllwild
70 years ago – 1947 Lightning struck more than 80 times in this section of the national forest during an August thunderstorm. Only five of the strikes, however, turned into fires. Because of the dampness, all fires were easily contained. 65 years ago – 1952 The Rev. and Mrs. Dilworth, back from 12 years in…
For the past three weeks in “Days of Our Nine Lives,” the cast of characters were introduced to fans. George: Everyone gather around! We had a new cat come in, but here is the biggest news. Bobbie found a forever home, and so did Audrey! Tinkerbell: I thought it was kind of quiet around here….

Editor: On Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the National Night event in Idyllwild, sponsored by the Riverside County Sheriff, our MCP members attended, and a committee of members met and spoke with Mr. Marr Christian, supervisor of Riverside County Code Enforcement….
Editor: After reading some quotes made by Marshall Hawkins regarding the jazz festival, I feel I must respond. For him to declare that “smooth jazz” is nothing more than a radio format is inaccurate at best. His comments are condescending toward so many smooth-jazz artists like The Rippingtons, Boney James, Accoustic Alchemy, Brian Culbertson, to…
Editor: In response to the Michael Frietas letter in the Aug. 10 TC: First of all, any educated environmentalist knows there are many negative environmental costs associated with the digital age (increased electricity production, manufacturing processes of computer hardware and software, precious metal and mineral extraction, out-dated equipment waste and so much more); that paper…
Editor: In response to your column in the July 27 paper, I have been a long-time off-Hill subscriber and still like the physical newspaper in my hand to read. I am no longer billed for the subscription, but would be happy to at least pay for the mailing cost. I appreciate that it is a…
Editor: For some unexplained reason, the Salton Sea rose about 240,000 gallons. We appreciate Idyllwild Water District or the part-time homeowner if they were responsible for the contribution. Biking on Highway 74 is worse then biking on the I-10. This is very dangerous for bikers and autos for there is no room to share the…
