Found: male Chihuahua on Idyllbrook in Idy. Call ARF to identify. 951-659-1122. Hurray for Kahlua, the Labradoodle. She didn’t last long at all. Already adopted into a forever home. All of the kittens have found forever homes as well. Bubbles is an 8-year-old female calico, declawed and just a bundle of love. She is very mellow,…
Fifteen years ago this month, a group of local residents created the Idyllwild Area Historical Society, dedicated to collecting, preserving and sharing evidence of our past. The society now has a loyal base of nearly 300 memberships scattered across the country, its own wholly owned museum campus, and a growing collection containing some 10,000 documents,…
Editor: Respectfully, Becky, you write frequently about the fire department in most unsavory terms. The week before last, it’s that the firemen are paid too much and we should have a volunteer fire department. You also say our Idyllwild Fire Department is basically an emergency medicine “outfit” (EMT). We are very fortunate to have our…
Congratulations once again to Pine Cove Water District. Its staff and board use government email accounts to conduct the people’s business. It’s a shame others on the Hill can’t say the same. Government email accounts are subject to public disclosure. Private accounts aren’t. Shame on IFPD, IWD and others who cower behind private email. Pine…
Editor: You are dividing blacks against whites and you are making a living with it. Shame on you. You are using your people for your own selfish purposes. We all have made big strides since Dr. King and still have to overcome many issues before we will have achieved understanding and love on both sides….
65 years ago – 1950 Upon completion of the architectural drawings for the workshops and studios of the Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts, construction began. 60 years ago – 1955 After four years of planning for zoning despite continuous opposition, the County Planning Commission adopted a master plan for the mountain area, which…
Kahlua is a 3-month-old purebred Labradoodle. Her owner has medical issues and had to give her up. She has had her first two puppy shots. Not old enough to be spayed yet. Very good with children, other dogs and cats. She is currently in puppy training for potty training, etc. Very mellow for a puppy….
As we age, we begin thinking of moving off the Hill. It becomes difficult to navigate and maintain a mountain lifestyle for many. Those ubiquitous stairs and forever rake-requiring pine needles and leaves begin to feel burdensome. The snow and ice become trickier to maneuver both on foot and by auto. We mostly move to…
Editor: Again on a holiday weekend, a found dog was brought to the ARF House. The ARF volunteers did what they always do in this case. They posted signs and spread the dog’s photo and info all over Facebook. And they kept the old boy safe in their hands for five days. No inquiries. Finally,…
Fred S. McChesney, a professor of law and economics at the University of Miami, wrote an intelligent opinion for the Washington Post on Sept. 4. “Fewer fires, so why are there far more firefighters?” posits that many cities and towns would be better off with volunteer fire companies for infernos considering that “rapid improvements in…
