Luther S. Weare, former Town Crier owner, publisher and editor from 1972 to 1978, died of a combination of pneumonia and congestive heart failure at 9:42 a.m. Monday, May 15. He was 84.

Mr. Weare, the son of Luther S. Weare Sr. and Annie E. Perkins, was born Jan. 19, 1916, in Ogunquit, Maine. He was the descendant of Peter Weare who emigrated to the United States from England in the early 1600s.

A memorial service is planned at the Barn on the Idyllwild Arts Academy campus at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 17. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Palm Desert; daughter Marla Johnson of Tustin, her husband, David Johnson and their children Peter and Eric Johnson; and daughter Andrea Sanborn, her husband, Bill Sanborn, and their children, Kelsey, Emily, Ben and Alex Sanborn.
