Norman Joan John, 77, formerly of Idyllwild, died at Magnolia Rehab in Riverside Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, where she had lived after suffering a stroke on March 4, 2004.

She was born June 17, 1931, to Robert David Herman John and Rosalie Garaway John.

She had been employed at Sears in El Monte, National Dragster Magazine and the National Hot Rod Association. She also had a cleaning business in Idyllwild since 1992.

Ms. John was a member of the Rebekah Lodge #204 in Whittier and the El Monte Women of Moose Lodge for more than 30 years. She was the first woman president of the Idyllwild Lions Club, and was a member of the American Legion Post 800 Women’s Auxiliary in Idyllwild. She was a member of the Idyllwild Community Fund Advisory Board.

Services are at noon Friday, Jan. 16, at Addleman Funeral Home, 11338 Valley Blvd., in El Monte. A reception follows at El Monte Moose Lodge. An additional Idyllwild service will be held at a later date in March.

She is survived by two daughters, Christina Kempton of Sierra Madre and Laura (Tony) Cumberland of Idyllwild; a son, Mark Kempton of Chiloquin, Ore.; four grandchildren, Gina (Jeff) Glick of Arcadia, Chad (Geneva) Bosques of Fremont, and Bryce Cumberland and Kaleigh Cumberland of Idyllwild; and five great-grandchildren, Tanner and Wyatt Glick, Jayden Cumberland, and Katilyn and Landon Bosques.

The family wishes to thank her best friend, Darleen Beeks, for being a good friend until the end.
