Charlotte S. Cowan, of Idyllwild, entered her eternal rest on Jan. 21, 2011.
Charlotte was born on May 4, 1933 in Kansas City, Mo., daughter of James and Jessie Smith. Her parents were from Aberdeen, Scotland.
Charlotte taught for 40 years at Longley Way Elementary in Arcadia, Calif.
Fulfilling her lifetime dream to care for “God’s creatures,” she moved to Idyllwild in 1999 to volunteer at Living Free Animal Sanctuary in Mountain Center. At the time of her death, she was a member of the organization’s board of directors. She also gave support to Animal Rescue Friends (ARF) of Idyllwild. Charlotte will be remembered as a loving, caring advocate for all animals.
Charlotte was a gifted vocalist, singing in the annual Idyllwild Master Chorale’s “Messiah” production. She also performed as a soloist in many churches during her years in Arcadia. She loved classical and Christian music. Reading was also a favorite pastime.
Charlotte’s life reflected her dedication to her lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith was evident to all who knew her.
She was a loyal friend and a gracious woman who was full of life and a servant of all. Generous, kind, witty and fun, she will be missed by all her friends and family.
A memorial service to honor Charlotte’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5 at Shiloh Christian Ministries, 54968 upper Pine Crest Avenue in Idyllwild.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Living Free Animal Sanctuary and/or Shiloh Christian Ministries.
