Brendan Steele had a rough time Friday on the South course at the Farmers Insurance Open in La Jolla. He posted only an even-par 72 and dropped into a tie for 47th place, with one stroke to spare above the cut. (Tiger Woods made the cut Friday with no strokes to spare.)

The native Idyllwilder’s drives found only 43 percent of the fairways, but still he managed to hit two-thirds of the greens in regulation. On the par-4 hole No. 4, he knocked a super-fine 206-yard shot from a fairway sand bunker to the green within 10 feet of the pin.

Brendan’s putter wasn’t friendly though Friday; he gave away more than three strokes to the field putting, missing two putts from inside three feet.

But tomorrow is another day. B tees off from No. 10 Saturday at 9:20.
