On Monday, March 11, 2019, Melvin Goldfarb, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 90.
Melvin was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Michigan. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and graduated at the top of his class in pharmacy school at UC Berkeley. He worked as a pharmacist for the next 60 years.
On Feb. 8, 1953, he married Dorothea Katzman. They raised one son, Barry, and three daughters, Susan, Deborah and Tamara.
Melvin loved his family and he loved his community. He led a life of selfless and unending service.
He established Idyllwild’s first pharmacy in 1977. He served as Idyllwild’s beloved pharmacist until his retirement in 2014. He volunteered his time, heart and money to a myriad of community services and charity organizations, including the Mountain Community Patrol, the Idyllwild Water District board, Rotary Club, American Legion and Lions Club. He left a legacy of love, giving and kindness.
Melvin is survived by his wife Dorothea “Dottie”; his three daughters Susie, Debbie and Tami; his sisters Sandy and Beverly; grandchildren Jennifer, Tygarjas, Julia, Rebecca and Joey; and great-granddaughter Samantha.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at St. Hugh’s Episcopal Church, 25525 Tahquitz Drive Idyllwild, with a reception to follow at 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Idyllwild Community Church, 54400 North Circle Drive.
