The Hemet High School girls’ volleyball team defeated Twentynine Palms High school, 3-0, in a second match of the CIF-SS Division 4AA tournament last night.
Hemet won the first game easily, 25-15. Then they dominated the second game.
Tritan Self opened the game serving and only lost her serve after the score was 14-0. Hemet won 25-6.
However, Twenty-nine Palms responded in the third game. They took an early lead 2-1 and maintained until the score was13-11 in their favor. At that point, Hemet coach Janie Washburn called a timeout.
“I told them to get their ‘act’ together and play volleyball,” she said describing her motivation talk. Twentynine Palms only scored one more point, before Hemet won 25-14.
Savannah Loutzenhiser watched the game while nursing a damaged knee. She may need surgery but is delaying it in case she can play later round games with a brace.
When asked what it would be like playing the tournament without Loutzenshiser, Washburn replied, “It’s tough. She’s a defensive machine and the attitude she brings.”
Hemet’s next game will be 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10. They will play Colony High School (the Mt. Baldy League champs). Colony was 16-9 for the season and seeded seventh in the 4AA Division. They beat Fairmont Prep (third in the San Joaquin League) 3-1. Fairmont won the first game and Colony then won the next three to advance to Saturday’s game against number two seed, Hemet.
If Fairmont wins, the game will be on their court; but if Colony wins, the Bulldogs will play at 7 p.m., in the Hemet gymnasium.
