Barbara McCayBarbara Lorraine McCay, 88, of Suffolk, Va., passed away on Dec. 26, 2012. A long-time resident of Idyllwild Calif., she was the daughter of the late Henry Irving Scribner and Grace Elliot Scribner. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard “Mac” Boyd McCaghren and son, Craig Lewis Slawson. Barbara was a homemaker who loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She loved children and volunteered at the library and at elementary schools in Hemet, reading to children and helping them with class projects. She loved walking in the mountains and gathering pine cones and seed pods to create beautiful wall art and decorative table displays. Barbara was also an artist who painted landscapes, seascapes and portraits of her grandchildren. She lived in Idyllwild for over 50 years until 2008 when she moved to Virginia to live with her daughter and her family in Suffolk.
She is survived by her three children, Carol Irene Owen of Suffolk, Va., Penny A. Godlis of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Reed Michael McCay of Hemet, Calif.; her five grandchildren, Laura Stockton of Suffolk, Va., Peter Owen of Virginia Beach, Va., James Owen of Katy, Texas, Debora Lasater, of Canoga Park, Calif., and Brian Godlis of Goleta, Calif.; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
