Joy Agnew, 60, of Vandalia, Ohio, died of cancer at home Monday, Nov. 10, 2008. She was born Aug. 25, 1948, in Piqua, Ohio, to Robert and Betty Bayless.

Ms. Agnew attended Edison State College in Piqua, Ohio. She worked at Idyllwild Arts, for the U.S. Postal Service and for Boojum Institute.

Along with living in Idyllwild, and Vandalia and Piqua, Ohio, she had lived in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and the Ozarks in Missouri.

While a resident here, she was a member of the Idyllwild Arts Book Club, Green Café Movie Night and Sierra Club. She also volunteered as a U.S. Forest Service fire lookout host.

She was a great hiking buddy and good friend.

A celebration of her life is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at Spirit Mountain Retreat. All of her friends are invited.

She is survived by two daughters, Penny Latimer of Troy, Ohio, and Pat Hart of Bradford, Ohio; two brothers, John Bayless of Troy, Ohio, and Steve Bayless of Piqua, Ohio; a sister, Peg Saunders of Piqua, Ohio; five grandchildren, Brittany Durand, John and Megan Latimer, and Bree and Riley Hart; and a great granddaughter, Isabelle Jolynn Hutchenson. A son, Pat Perkins, predeceased her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in her memory be sent to the Sierra Club,
