About 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, Joan Gormley, 79, was traveling about 30 mph east on Pine Crest Avenue near Alderwood Street when she lost control of her Subaru Forester, crashing head on into a tree. Photo by Jenny KirchnerAccording to witnesses and parties involved, on Sunday, Oct. 27, a little after 6 p.m., Noah Reed, 20, of Banning, was riding his motorcycle north on Highway 243 traveling around 50 to 60 mph. Reed lost control of his bike, swiping the side of a Honda Pilot near mile marker 15. Responders closed Highway 243 in both directions. U.S. Forest Service is on scene Monday afternoon of a small fire allegedly started by a transient. Transient was on scene. Law enforcement is to respond. No threat to vegetation. Small fire started in the river bottom of the South Fork of the San Jacinto River about a mile east of Cranston Guard Station.
Idyllwild Fire responded to a roll-over traffic collision around midnight on Halloween night. According to CHP Officer Mike Murawski, Taylor Browning of Idyllwild was traveling north on Highway 243 near Jameson Drive when he lost control rolling his Ford truck. Browning was uninjured and was arrested for driving under the influence.
A native Idyllwild firefighter died Sunday night along with two others in a helicopter that collided with another helicopter in Cabazon while responding to a wildfire.
