Donald Herbert Schmiedt was born April 2, 1930, in Woonsocket, South Dakota, to Herbert and Josephine Schmiedt.

Don was a sergeant in the Marines during the Korean conflict when he married Joye Garrett in May of 1951. Together they raised an outstanding family of six children.

Don was an avid reader, gardener and successful realtor. A man of great faith, Don and his family spent two years as missionaries serving the people of Mexico.

He passed away from complications due to surgery from an aortic aneurysm on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, surrounded by family.

He is survived by his wife Joye, son Adrian and wife Linda, son Gordon and wife Marcia, daughter Carla and husband Allen, son Sheldon and wife Gail, son Jeff and wife Izabella, and son JD and wife Melissa; grandchildren Aaron, Thomas Travis, Heather, Jayson, Anthony, Christopher, Leah, Siana and Cory; and great-grandchildren Jason, Aliah, Courtney, Caitlin, Isaiah, Urijah, Brett, Evelyn, Gabriel, Gauge, Farran and Addisyn.

There will be a private celebration of life later this summer. In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree.
