Garnett “Mick” Horton died Monday, March 16, 2009, at his home in Fern Valley. Mick was a resident of Idyllwild for 14 years.

Mick was born in Staffordshire, England, and attended school in Birmingham, England. From the age of 14, he served his apprenticeship as a pattern maker for seven years before coming to the United States in April 1953. He continued working as a pattern maker until retirement at age 64.

Mick was well known for his sense of humor and enjoyed the attention he received from the large belt buckles he wore around town.

Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at the Idyllwild Bible Church.

Mick is survived by his wife, Marilyn; two daughters, Wendy Malcolm and Pam (Bill) Ramm; a son, Bill (Debbie) Horton; and seven grandchildren, Micah and Kayley Malcolm, Ashley and Chelsey Horton, and Jon, Joel and Jared Ramm. His brother, John (Rose) Horton, and sister, Anne (Frank) Atkin, survive him in England.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to www.operationsmile.com or clairhorton06@hotmail.co.uk, a charity for Mick’s great-niece who was born with Lissencephaly.
