Richard (Dick) Price passed away from Alzheimer’s disease at age 77 in his home in Garner Valley on Sunday, Oct. 13 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in San Pedro, California and was the son of the late Robert and Aileen Price.
Dick graduated in 1960 from San Pedro High School and later received a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Long Beach and a master’s degree from Pepperdine University. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1969.
After moving to the Palm Springs area, Dick was a teacher and principal. He retired from education in 1999. Being service oriented, Dick was a volunteer fireman, EMT, and reserve Sheriff Deputy.
Dick loved horses and the cowboy life and went on numerous cattle drives over the years. In 2001, Dick and his wife, Jackie, bought a 5-acre ranch in Garner Valley where they raised and boarded horses. Dick also loved an iron horse, his Harley Davidson. He often rode with the Patriot Guard, honoring fallen service personnel.
Retirement was a happy time for Dick and his wife. They traveled throughout the country, sometimes with their fifth-wheel.
Dick will always be remembered for the twinkle in his eyes, his humor and his love of family, friends, animals and the outdoors.
He leaves behind his wife, Jackie; son, Ryan (Carol); daughter, Melissa Jones; grandchildren Colin, Ella, Jade, and Jordan; brother, Robert (Pat); sister, June (Richard) and many nieces and nephews.
