The Rev. Judy Kane-Smith, 60, of Anza, non-denominational local minister, passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, from natural causes.

She was born March 24, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Preceding her move to Idyllwild in the late 1980s, Rev. Judy, ordained by the United Church of Religious Science, served as minister for several years at a Southern California United church that she started.

Rev. Judy was very much in demand as a weddings officiant and planner; marriage, family and child counselor; and conductor of baby blessings and memorials.

During her earlier years as minister of her church, she inspired many civic groups and organizations throughout California and the Southwest as a public and motivational speaker.

Judy loved animals, speaking up for their deserved care and protection.

he is survived by her husband, Micky Smith of Anza; a brother, Kevin Kane, and nieces Sarah and Andrea of Kentucky; and her precious pets, Angel, Jackie, Holly, Solona and at least two cats.

A loving, loyal friend, this compassionate woman will be greatly missed.
