Brendan Steele fired a 13-under-par 65-70-69-71 — 275 this week in the first tournament of the new 2020-2021 PGA Tour season to tie for 29th place in the Safeway Open on the Silverado Resort and Spa North Course in Napa.
His drives averaged 305.9 yards and found 53.57% of the fairways, while he hit 81.94% of the greens in regulation. With the putter, he gave away a tiny average of 0.1815 of a stroke per round to the field.
When asked about whether he missed competing with galleries, the Idyllwild native told the Town Crier “I feel very lucky to be competing at all right now, so I don’t mind not having galleries.”
Brendan will take the next three weeks off, but then he plans to play three weeks in a row, beginning with the $7-million Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas on Oct. 8, followed by $9.75-million The C.J. Cup @ Shadow Creek also in Las Vegas on Oct. 15, and the $8-million Zozo Championship @ Sherwood in Thousand Oaks on Oct. 22.
