Poppy has been adopted. Yay, for finding your forever home. Introducing the survivors from Highway 243: Catnis, the Maltese, Peeta the brown and white, and Rue, the Chihuahua-mix. For days the community and animal control tried to capture these three from the highway. Patience from our Hill community finally won out. They are now safe…
65 years ago – 1950 The Town Crier, which first saw the light of day in the Maxwells’ attic, moved into the rock building at Fern Valley Corners. 60 years ago – 1955 Dispensing mountain hospitality with all modern conveniences was the new Singingwood Motel, which opened the prior week, on the Banning highway…
“The mountains are calling and I must go,” wrote John Muir in a letter to his sister. Now, good old John Muir didn’t say, “The mountains are calling, but I just have to finish this TV marathon of ‘Frasier’ first.” Nope. He clearly focused his priorities to fulfill his purpose, to do what he needed…

I feel, instead, the aches. Over the weekend, after many hours of planting a container garden on my deck, getting up…
Around the house we can always find pests that are more of a nuisance in our everyday lives than they are damaging — irritants like ants on the kitchen counter, cobwebs in the corners, flies and even that moth flying around the dinner table light at night. No harm is done. We live with them…
