Editor: In a recent Town Crier article, Sue Nash of the Mountain Communities Fire Safe Council was quoted as saying, “We’re terrified … Everyone wants this.” Did she mean everybody at her Mountain Communities Fire Council is terrified, or that everyone that lives on the Hill is? If she means everyone in Idyllwild and Pine…
Editor: Yes, you can expect to see more trash on the side of the road from illegal dumping. Why? Because someone has decided that you must pay $25 to drop off any piece of electronic equipment. That computer you no longer want? $25 to get rid of it. Same for a TV. And would you…
Greetings from the James Reserve. In the first installment of our column, we introduced the James Reserve and promised further “peeks into the natural world” in future columns. In thinking what this first “peek” should be, I have decided on mountain lions. I decided this because I have studied them for many years and as…
Q. When should the tags be taken off new clothes? -Wally, Escondido A. You can’t take the tags off right away or people won’t know you’re wearing new clothes. The exception is that long, clear strip that says “EXTRA LARGE” on it 12 times. You should pull that one off or it will look like…

Sadly, most domesticated humans have an appalling lack of understanding of their vegetal surroundings and may even feel threatened by their leafy…
