It didn’t go so well for Brendan Steele at the Shell Houston Open last week. He managed only an even-par 70-74 — 144, which missed the cut by one stroke. It was only his third missed cut in 11 starts this season.

The Idyllwild native found half of the fairways with drives averaging 307 yards, and he hit 75 percent of the greens in regulation. But his putter wasn’t working especially well; he gave away 1.2 strokes to the field putting, which was about a half-stroke more than he gained on the field from tee to green.

Brendan has this week off. We can expect to see him next either next week in the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head, South Carolina, or in two weeks in the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio, where he won in 2011.
