The Idyllwild Community Center’s 2019 youth soccer season started last week. Soccer games are played on Thursdays and Fridays at 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the Idyllwild School.

4- to 6-year-old division

The Red Hawks and Royals Knights played an exciting game with goals scored by the Red Hawks’ Fletcher Leillot and Bon Donovan, and Jude Olivier of the Royal Knights. In the second game between the Blue Monsters and Renegades, Poppy Reynosa scored a goal for the Blue Monsters, and goalie Cayden Unruh of the Renegades stopped a penalty kick.

7- to 9-year-old division

Outstanding defense and goalkeeping dominated this division. Liverpool and The Dragons tied 0-0 with Luke Olivier, of Liverpool, and Miles Sechrest, of The Dragons, providing outstanding goalkeeping. Silas Zimmerman scored a goal for Liverpool in a 1-1 tie. In another game, Bentley Lewis scored a goal for Idyllwild.

Cody Fogle scored an early goal for the Crusaders for a 1-0 lead, but Christian Gonzalez, of the Idyllwild Stars, scored a goal on a penalty kick for a 1-1 tie. His brother, Oliver Gonzalez, scored a goal for a 2-1 lead and the final score. Again, outstanding goalkeeping from the Crusaders’ Jayden Fogle, Cameron Gage and the Idyllwild Stars’ Finn Carpenter.
