Last week in “The Days of Our Nine Lives,” ARF cats were admittedly very happy that there were no ARF dogs. Olivia: So, we’re canine-free, but there still are some changes. Bobbie: Oh no, no, noooooooo! Olivia: Two of the kittens, Twix and KitKat, went to forever homes, and London’s gone. Bobbie: Gone? London’s gone?…
Editor: It’s hard to grasp how a small community like Pine Cove could ever have a surplus of over $660,000, monies raised from our property taxes that were never spent. Our local governing body, better known as CSA 38, has come clean. They can no longer justify raising our property taxes, while sitting on a…
Editor: I appreciate you publishing my letter about Lefty Lou’s death. I need to clarify myself with another letter in response to ARF. I never meant to discredit them on their work. On the contrary, I have to say that they always help with the dogs I rescue on my own just out of compassion…
Editor: First, the kudo: Your IFPD editorial last week was not only excellent, it was well needed. It was a service to the community. Finger wag? Well, maybe not so much as a request. Many of us have learned to correlate the Earth Fair with the household hazardous waste collection put on by the…
Editor: We elect an IFPD Board to “Serve and Advise” the community of Idyllwild. The chief serves at the pleasure of the board (and therefore the community of Idyllwild). The chief of IFPD is not POTUS, in other words he does NOT have “a pen and a phone.” The secret talks between a shuttered San…
Editor’s note: In light of the recent closed dealings at both Idyllwild Fire Protection and Idyllwild Water districts, I’m taking a break again this week to let my newspaper colleague, Brian Hunhoff, speak his mind on open government. Ten Commandments for open meetings By Brian J. Hunhoff “I think heroic deeds were all conceived in…
65 years ago – 1951 Opening of trout season was marred by severe weather and tragedy. Ten camping parties had to be rescued from Dark Canyon Campground and a boy froze to death when he attempted to hike out seeking help for his father who had suffered a heart attack. 60 years ago – 1956…
Last week in “The Days of Our Nine Lives,” ARF dogs and cats were discussing the change in cattery dynamics with the arrival of kittens and possible departure of Mishka, the husky. Leia: (bursting into the room) Well, it has happened again. The dogs are gone. Bill: Gone? Do you mean they’re with forever families?…
By Bobbie Glasheen Rummaging in a drawer for stray M&Ms, I come across an envelope, splotched and stained with what I hope is coffee. Aha! It is addressed to me. Carefully, even reverently, I draw the invitation from the envelope. The card stock is feathery and all but falls apart in my hands. This could…
Editor: Homonyms are fun, for sure, but just to clarify: Idyll, according to Webster, means, “an extremely happy, peaceful, or picturesque episode or scene …” Idle, of course, means something entirely different and it is not a part of our town’s great name. Darien Martus Idyllwild
