Creature Corner

By Janice Murasko

Last week in “Days of Our Nine Lives,” ARF cats and kittens talked about making the holidays safe for pets.

Harley: All of you please gather around. I have some big news.

Pepper: Some of us are here, but it’s a rather sparse group.

Harley: You’re right, Pepper. Who seems to be missing?

Smokey: Hmmmm … it’s quiet, and looking around I cannot find Don and Phil.

Carrie: Right! I just learned that they were adopted this past Saturday!

Eeyore: Wow! That is such fabulous news! Lucky boys.

Pepper: We are all so very happy for them.

Harley: And there is more big news, and here she comes right now.

Sheba: (entering the room) Hello, everyone! I’m ARF’s newest dog, Sheba. I’m so happy to be here.

Eeyore: Hi Sheba! You are just beautiful. Will you please tell us all about you?

Sheba: Of course. I’m young, around 6 months old. The kind people at ARF think I’ve got a good dose of Australian Kelpie in my genetics, probably mixed with who-knows-what.

Smokey: That’s interesting. I think you’re the first Kelpie to come to ARF. How big will you be once you’re fully grown?

Sheba: Probably 38 to 40 pounds. People will like me because of my predicted size, but they’ll also really like how affectionate and loving I am. Naturally, I like to play and go on walks. My foster thinks I’m pretty good on a leash, and she says I am crazy-smart. I do learn very quickly and easily. I also like to play with other dogs.

Harley: Welcome to ARF, Sheba. I doubt you’ll be with us for very long. Whomever adopts you will be very lucky! I hope you meet many potential adopters this weekend. They should call ARF now to make an appointment to meet you.

Be sure to keep up with the animal antics of Days of our Nine Lives each week. And please stop in to say hello to the entire adoptable cast at the ARF House, 26890 Hwy 243. ARF is open Saturdays 10-3, Sundays 10-2, and during the week by appointment. Please call 951- 659-1122.

Creature Corner is seeking monthly sponsors. For those interested in sponsoring future months of Creature Corner, contact ARF at 951-659-1122 or info@idyllwildarf.org.
