Last week in “The Days of Our Nine Lives,” some of the adult cats were considering making tally marks on the cattery wall to keep track of the days until they get forever homes. Dovey: (peeking through the window from the office) Hey! Look at me! I’m the new ARF office cat. Mr. Gray: Glad…
Editor: Many people share the religious feelings of the Thompsons, but my over 70 years of thought and research on religion provides a very different understanding. As I have written in “From Tradition to Truth: Fear, Belief, and Civilization,” Moses, Jesus and Muhammad lived at the most tumultuous period in human history. Prior to this…
Editor: About a week ago, I called Mike Freitas of the Idyllwild Water District board to ask if he could meet for a cup of coffee. He called back and was too busy. I requested a tour of the waste treatment plant and facilities. I also asked him if he was a full-time resident of…
Editor: I have the right to say how I feel and so do you. I appreciate your response. I wrote about observations, not judgments. Thank God we live in America and can enjoy our freedom of speech. When I came to America in 1956, it was a different America than we live in now. You…
The Rotary Club works so hard putting together a great Independence Day Parade and now a Family Freedom Festival afterward. Chuck Weisbart (and Bob Parish in the past) and volunteers (Mountain Community Patrol, too) deserve huge kudos and hugs for how they pull together our community every year in this fun celebration. They took much…

I am now the only kitten in this cattery! Bill: Have you forgotten about little Lucy? Peppermint Patty: No, I haven’t, Bill. It’s just…

The Riverside County Register of Voters has certified the results of the June 7 primary election. The final vote tallies have not changed the preliminary winners or the top two who will face off on the November general election ballot. As usual, the turnout in Idyllwild and Pine Cove far exceeded the county and statewide…
Editor: What happened to the Highlander bagpipes at this year’s Independence Day Parade? While we truly appreciate all the hard work and organization it takes to put on the parade, and we in no way mean to detract from all of that, we specifically come to the Idyllwild Fourth of July parade to see all…
Editor: The crises of local governance in Idyllwild go much deeper than political divisions, ideology or money. Not only are mountain residents deeply divided on what to do about water, ambulance transport service and fire protection, our local boards notoriously fail to execute settled policies and law effectively. Whether it be misplaced ordinances and policies,…
