According to California Highway Patrol Officer Ed Nuñez, about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, Michael Stackpole, 71, of Idyllwild, was traveling north on Highway 243 on his 1999 Kawasaki. He lost control and slid off the highway. Stackpole was traveling at about 30 miles per hour. He said a bag he was carrying had too much weight. It shifted while he was trying to make a corner and caused him to lose control. American Medical Response transported Stackpole to a nearby hospital with a broken left leg and road rash.
