Joan C. Knute, 66, a former Pine Cove part-time resident, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, of cancer at the San Diego Hospice. Mrs. Knute, a Solana Beach resident, had just sold her home in Pine Cove, the same month she died.

She was born Dec. 13, 1933, in Ontario, Canada and was a homemaker after being employed for more than 25 years in the insurance industry.

She belonged to the English Smocking Guild and the Knitting Guild in Solana Beach. She belonged to Wee Care, smocking beautiful baby gowns to be given to families with deceased infants. Gowns were made for 1-2 pound and 6-7 pound infants and were donated to the UCSD University Hospital.

Mrs. Knute also belonged to the British Isles Genealogy Research Association and was very active in genealogy research.

Memorial services were scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at Solana Beach Presbyterian Church in Solana Beach.

Mrs. Knute is survived by her mother, Connie Williams of Del Mar; two sons, Scott Krueger of Ramona and Kevin McQuaid of Temecula; three daughters, Susan McQuaid of Encinitas (and a previous Pine Cove resident), and Katherine Knute and Mollie Knute, both of Solana Beach; a brother, Jack Hedger of Ontario, Canada; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death on Feb. 2, 1996, by her husband, Wallace Knute.
