I have been a part-time resident of Idyllwild since 1969, and I can think of no other town that had a dog as mayor. It was wonderful!

And although I never met Max, I followed him in the Town Crier. We need more four-legged friends in public office. My sincere condolences to his family and ARF.

  • Opinion: Commissioners ignored voters

In response to your reader’s question who jokingly asked if Pete Capperelli dated my wife,  Pete’s a great guy.  I think he also was a pretty good real estate agent.  But the people of Idyllwild, in the last general election, voted him out of office.  All the fire commissioners who ran for re-election were rejected. The…

  • TC can’t let go

Editor: “Many refused to vote for candidates,” read the damning headline. Refused? How about, “Didn’t vote for three candidates, only voted for two, or only voted for one?” Well, 37.10 percent of the Idyllwild Fire Protection District registered voters at least voted, which is pretty much in line with the turnout in both 2001 and…

  • Opinion: Support of IFPD

We are inundated with radio waves in our lives — radio waves from hundreds of satellites, cell phone towers, microwave transfer stations, television and broadcasters, on the mountaintops and in the city. Nobody knows the relationship of radio waves to cancer. There seems to be some connection. Cell phones are blamed for causing brain tumors….

  • Opinion: Youth and age

I have been attending and supporting the summer concerts since the first season. The last four years, my children have been enjoying it as well. That is, until last night [this letter arrived Friday, Aug. 19] when a group of grumpy old people decided that we were not welcome, and that my 2-year-old’s dancing was…

  • Opinion: Environmental act helps

The California Environmental Quality Act is needed now more than ever. When widespread fracking is on the horizon, global warming and its impacts are ever more real, water supplies are diminishing; huge and costly infrastructure projects are under consideration at the state and local level, this is not the time to weaken the California Environmental…
