Late Saturday afternoon, officials from the Idyllwild Fire Department were alerted to a body on the Butterfield Commons on Strawberry Creek, the future home of the Idyllwild Community Center, and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the location where the body was found.
Late Sunday, the Riverside County Coroner’s office released the following information: The deceased was Brandon Schellenberg, 37, of Idyllwild. No cause of death was listed and the Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the situation.
According to Idyllwild Fire Chief Patrick Reitz, the district received a call of a possible deceased body in the area of the creek behind the ICC property.
“RSO was notified and was responding while district personnel met with and were led to the location by the juveniles that had found the body. District personnel confirmed that the individual was deceased and secured the scene until RSO deputies arrived and assumed control of the scene,” Reitz wrote in an email.
