Just in time for the flu season, the annual Idyllwild Health Fair will make available free flu shots for Idyllwild residents.

Co-sponsored by Dr. Ken Browning’s Fern Creek Medical Center and the Idyllwild HELP Center, the annual fair provides counseling and health screenings for a variety of health markers — blood sugar, blood pressure, body composition/body fat and visual acuity. It will be held at 54910 Pine Crest Ave. in Fern Valley Corners from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12. It is free to the public.

Dr. Dick Goldberg, fair coordinator and spokesperson, said there would be adequate flu shots for all attendees. “The county is providing 150 doses and in the past, the most we’ve used were about 110,” said Goldberg.

Goldberg said the Riverside County Office on Aging would be sending a representative to discuss county services available to seniors. He also said he was hoping the American Heart Association would be sending a representative to discuss heart issues such as heart attacks and strokes, but that was not confirmed as of this writing. Goldberg noted that Browning’s office would have a nutritionist available for consultation.

“American Red Cross will also be there discussing disaster preparedness and hoping to recruit local volunteers,” said Goldberg.

“This fair has always been meant to be a fundraiser for the Idyllwild HELP Center,” said Goldberg. “So any donations of canned or non-perishable food, cash or clothing would be appreciated.”
