Idyllwild’s Palms to Pines Golf Association held its regular monthly tournament on Friday, June 17, 2011, at the Golf Club at Rancho California in Murrieta (the old Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) Member’s Course). The day was clear, bright and beautiful and the course was in excellent shape.
Bob Stearns (course handicap 26) won the tournament with a net 70; Bill Ragland (14), took second with a net 74; Gary Leong (16) took third with a net 72; Dale Calderon (41) took fourth with a net 77; and Gary Minor took fifth with a net 78.
Dan Slattery won for closest to the pin on both the front and back nines, and Les Widerynski won for longest drive.
This was the second-to-the-last regular tournament in which to garner points to qualify for the playoffs for the title of Club Champion, so the competition is heating up. The top eight point finishers will compete in match-play playoffs beginning in August. The Club Champ will then play in the Southern California Tournament of Club Champions in December.
