Caltrans announced today that it expects to access to Lake Fulmor within two to three weeks on Highway 243 from Idyllwild, according to Shane Massound, public information officer for Caltrans.

The estimate for use of Highway 74, west to Hemet, is currently six weeks. When this is available, escorts vehicles will lead traffic between 4 a.m. to 7 a.m. ad 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The next step will be full access on Hwy 74 under the use of flagging conditions.

Massoud added that Ames Construction, the Caltrans contractor, has begun working 24 hours a day on these road repairs.

The Idyllwild and Mountain Center community has been hit hard with lack of tourism and accessibility. Caltrans is working with partner agencies to urge motorists to use the available detours to Idyllwild on Hwy. 74 from Palm Desert or on Hwy. 79 (to State Route 371 to Hwy. 74 to State Route 243) from I-15 in Temecula.
